Client: Mad About Theatre | Writers Republic
Set Designer: Madeleine Barlow
Associate Set Designer: Leila Marsden
Our long term client/friend Madeleine Barlow approached the team of Scenery Makers Australia with a brand new musical set design.
Li'L Elvis and the Truckstoppers was an iconic Australian TV show in the 90's and the team was so excited to see this concept come to life.
A unique approach was required to ensure this set was a safe design due to the sheer height of the pieces and ensure the impact hitting scenes were represented correctly. The individual pieces of this set are designed to open like a book and portray a different scene within the set, the three set pieces were able to showcase 7 separate scenes due to this unique design.
Our welder was put to work to create an unusual size ladder as the majority of the cast in this musical were children or young adults, creating safe and usable structures was paramount for this set.
Leo, our scenic artist was in painters heaven with the detail and colour palette used in this design with intricate hotels to rock formations and plants, this set truly had it all.
We were honoured with being chosen as the set building company for this musical and our carpenter Darren, who worked so diligently on this set was able to see it live in action for opening show.
